Director Biography

Carlos RamirezCarlos A. Ramirez, MD, DDS

Dr. Ramirez is a board certified maxillofacial head & neck surgeon with specialized training in reconstructive surgery. He is among a handful of surgeons in Southeast Michigan trained to provide this advance surgical option. Dr. Ramirez is on staff at St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital, St. John Hospital and Medical Center and Providence Hospital. Dr. Ramirez provides an additional spectrum of reconstruction for patient who may have been significantly disfigured by head and neck cancers. These surgical options may also be appropriate for patient with maxillofacial trauma or with soft/hard tissue defects or avulsions that require microvascular free or local pedicled flaps. Dr. Ramirez earned his medical degree from Wayne State University and dental surgery degree from University of Detroit Mercy. He completed residency training in Oral Maxillofacial Surgery at St. John Providence Hospital. Dr. Ramirez then went on to specialized fellowship training in Mircovascular Reconstruction, Head and Neck Surgery at University of Florida College of Medicine. Dr. Ramirez is a member of the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, American Medical Association and American Dental Association. Dr. Ramirez has authored multiple peer reviewed publications, book chapters and lectures nationally and internationally on reconstructive surgery.

William S. BloomWilliam S. Bloom, DDS

Dr. Bloom is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. His special interests include orthognathic surgery, implants, trauma, and oral pathology. Dr. Bloom is a graduate of the University of Michigan School of Dentistry and received his post-graduate training at Detroit-Macomb Hospital Corporation and Children’s Hospital of Michigan. He has been in the private practice of oral and maxillofacial surgery since 1978. Dr. Bloom is Chief of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency program at St. John Health, he is also past President of the Michigan Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Detroit Academy, Great Lakes Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and Michigan Cleft Palate Association. He is also a past member of the Board of Directors of St. John Macomb Hospital and in 1999 was appointed to the Michigan Board of Dentistry. His many other professional affiliations include the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Dental Association, the Michigan Dental Association and the Macomb Dental Society.
