Residency Applicants

We accept three residents annually to our six-year MD-integrated residency program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. The program is fully accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association. Candidates are selected based upon academic standing, extracurricular activities, clinical and research experiences, and letters of recommendation.

This program provides training in the full scope of the specialty. The education provided is designed to prepare its graduates for a career in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

The application process is through PASS (Postdoctoral Application Support Service). Information regarding application requirements is available on the PASS website.

Externship Applicants

The opportunity to complete an externship in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery is offered to dental students interested in the specialty. The duration of the externship is one-two weeks. Externs will have the opportunity to gain experience in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery and learn about our program by attending seminars and morning rounds, outpatient clinic sessions, operating room procedures, and trauma call.

Non-Categorical OMFS Internship

St. John Providence Detroit Riverview outpatient clinic offers both consultation and treatment services for a variety of oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures, including: extractions, impacted third molars, incision & drainage, hard & soft tissue lesion evaluation and biopsy, exposures & bonding, frenectomy, TMJ, implants, orthognathic surgery, pre-prosthetic surgery, cleft lip and palate, cosmetic surgery, and trauma.
